The Invitation Ready for Book Deserts
A magical box arrived last week. I almost didn’t open it, thinking it was a holiday gift from a relative. Luckily, I noticed Room to Read as the sender.
Inside was a full paperback set of the non-profit’s Peace & Equality picture book collection. It’s been a year since I was part of the team bringing this to life. My contribution was The Invitation, a picture book about neurodiversity, friendship and inclusion (partnered with illustrator Ruthie Lafond).
Room to Read plans to distribute 70,000 copies of the 10-book box collection to U.S. book deserts where children do not have adequate access to children’s literature. It is a beautiful collection, with a range of stories that will appeal to different interests.
Eventually the books will be available to purchase on demand.
Meanwhile, kids can read The Invitation online for free. And you can read all of the Peace & Equality stories online here.
I look forward to sharing when the books are available to purchase!
